Lessons
Tutors prepare each lesson, keep the time free for the student, and are paid for that time. These policies protect that, and they are the same for every family.
- Weekly lessons. A student has the same tutor at the same time each week for the term.
- Moving a lesson. A lesson can be moved to another day in the same week or the next, free, with 48 hours' notice.
- Less than 48 hours' notice. A lesson moved or missed with less than 48 hours' notice is charged in full, including illness on the day.
- If a student does not arrive. The tutor waits 30 minutes and the lesson is charged.
- School holidays. Lessons run in the holidays. Extra lessons can be added before exams.
- Stopping. There is no contract. Tell us two weeks ahead and the student's time goes to the next student on the list. Lessons already paid for and not used are refunded.
- Online lessons. Lessons run on Microsoft Teams with a shared whiteboard. A quiet place, a device with a camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection are needed.
- In-person lessons. Available with some tutors in parts of Auckland by arrangement, and may cost more. A parent or caregiver is at home during an in-person lesson with a student under 18.
Payment
- School students. $70 per 60-minute lesson. The first lesson is free.
- VIP tutoring. $85 per 60-minute lesson with our most experienced tutors.
- Tertiary. A prepaid set of 10 one-hour lessons for $1,000, booked as needed.
- Invoices. Sent on Monday for the following week and due on Thursday. Lessons are paid before they happen.
- How to pay. Online bank transfer, or card through Stripe. There is no extra fee for paying by card.
- Sibling discount. From 1 January 2027, the first child pays the normal price and every further brother or sister who joins gets 10% off their lessons.
- Refunds. Lessons paid for and not used are refunded when a student stops. Lessons cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice are not refunded.
Conduct
- Academic integrity. We teach concepts and similar problems. We do not complete graded coursework, internals or assignments for a student. At Cell Tuition we hold ourselves to the highest level of integrity, because we respect education.
- Graded work presented as practice. If a tutor finds that work a student asked for help with was in fact graded coursework, Cell Tuition investigates, and once it is confirmed we reserve the right to inform the student's school of the misconduct.
- Respect. Lessons are a respectful space for students and tutors. We can end an arrangement where that is not possible.
- Tutors. Every tutor is interviewed, trained and supported by our founder, a registered teacher.
Privacy
Cell Tuition collects only what is needed to run lessons and answer enquiries.
What we collect
- From enquiry forms and the free-lesson form: the parent's name, phone number and email, the student's first name, year level, subjects and school curriculum.
- From lessons: scheduling, attendance, invoices and payments, and the PDF notes and homework examples for each lesson.
- From the free quizzes: a first name and optional class code entered by the student, and the quiz score. No account is created.
- From the website: standard analytics and advertising measurement through Google Analytics and Google Ads, which use cookies. You can block cookies in your browser.
How we use it
- To reply to you, match a tutor, run and schedule lessons, send notes and homework, and invoice.
- To tell you about your child's progress.
- We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it with anyone except the services we use to run the business.
Where it is kept
- Scheduling and invoicing in Teachworks. Payments through Stripe or your bank. Lesson notes and homework in Microsoft Teams and Google Workspace. Enquiry forms in Google Sheets.
- Tutors see only the information for their own students.
Your rights
- You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you or your child at any time. Email hello@celltuition.com.
- We keep lesson records for as long as needed for invoicing and tax, then delete them.
